Updated August 29, 2017 Set your home phone next to the cable router so that the connection cable is within reach of the cable router. If your modem is not already plugged in, connect a coaxial cable from the cable jack to the “Cable In” port on the back of the modem. Plug the power cord into the modem’s “Power” input and into a standard wall outlet. If the “Online” light on the modem is blinking instead of solid, the modem may need to be activated. Refer to your cable company’s website, smartphone app or phone support to activate the modem. Connect a computer or smartphone to the modem. To connect wirelessly, locate the network name, or SSID, and password, sometimes called Preshared Key, on the modem’s label. Enter these on your device’s wireless network connection menu to connect. To connect with a wired Ethernet cable, plug it into the “Ethernet” ports on the modem and your computer. Once your computer or smartphone is connected, load a website to verify the modem is online and connected to the internet. If you are asked to accept your cable provider’s terms and conditions, do so. Connect the telephone cable to the “Tel 1” port on the back of the cable router. This port looks like a telephone jack.
