Apple computers come with a default utility called “DVD Player” capable of playing DVD disks. By default the DVD Player is set to open automatically when you insert a video DVD into the disk drive. If your DVD Player does not automatically start when you insert a disk into the drive, you must change the DVD preferences. Alternatively, if you do not wish for the DVD Player to start automatically or if you close the DVD Player and wish to access it again without removing the DVD, you can open it manually using the Apple “Finder” utility.
